Frequently Asked Questions

When arriving in the Netherlands for the first time there are many things that you have to arrange. All necessary information can be found on the WUR website.

Every student of Wageningen University and Aeres Hogeschool Wageningen can participate in the AID. As a student starting in Wageningen you can apply as an AID participant. As a current student you can apply as either a Mentor or CREW member. The AID is all about getting to know your fellow students, the student life and the city Wageningen.

No, as of 1 July 2020, all WUR parts of Wageningen Campus are smoke-free. This measure is in keeping with the announced government legislation ruling that all educational facilities, from primary schools to universities, must keep their premises smoke-free.

You can find more information and a FAQ about the smoke-free campus on this website.

Dutch people like to cycle, so a bike is pretty necessary. The program is spread out over the city, but can be reached by bike easily. We don't provide bikes. You can buy a bike via the Facebook page 'Wageningen Student Plaza' or find other bike stores online.

There will be a bike sale on the first day of the AID, during the campus games, this will be clearly indicated on campus.

It is always advisable to consult vaccinatiecentrum.nl if you are going to travel. Situations all over the world change rapidly, sometimes overnight.

You can call us to make an appointment: 085 9020303

The adress of the WUR campus is Droevendaalsesteeg 2. You can park your car in the (free) car park next to Radix. The nearest busstop is either Campus/Forum or Campus/Atlas.

Get to the campus by public transport:

Most international visitors arrive at Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam). Follow the signs from the Schiphol Arrival Hall to the Railway Station: ‘to the trains’. At the train station you can purchase a ticket to Ede-Wageningen from one of the yellow vending machines or at the NS Service Desk. Trains depart from Schiphol Airport to Ede-Wageningen via Utrecht almost every 15 minutes. Take a direct train to Ede-Wageningen or take an intercity train from Schiphol to Utrecht. Once in Utrecht, switch to a train in the direction of Arnhem or Nijmegen. Your final stop is Ede-Wageningen. Travel time from Schiphol to Ede-Wageningen is approximately 60 to 75 minutes. The Valleilijn bus (line 303) runs between Ede-Wageningen station and bus station in Wageningen, and passes Wageningen Campus. During rush hour there is a bus every ten minutes, outside rush hour every quarter and in the late hours it is a half-hour service. For more information about live departures and arrivals, look at 9292.nl. On ns.nl (mostly for trains) or 9292.nl you can also plan your journey and see if there are any disruptions or maintenance on your route.

Get to the campus by car:

From Utrecht or Arnhem: Coming from Utrecht or Arnhem on the A12, take exit 24 (Ede/Wageningen/Bennekom) and follow the road in the direction of Wageningen (N781) until you reach the roundabout. Take the third exit (Droevendaalsesteeg) to arrive at the campus.

From Rhenen: From Rhenen, follow the N225 to Wageningen. At the traffic light, go left to get on the Kortenoord Allee. Turn right to the Nijenoord Allee. Turn left to the Mansholtlaan (N781), towards the A12. Follow the road until the roundabout and take the third exit (Droevendaalsesteeg).

From the A50 (Nijmegen-Den Bosch): Leave the A50 motorway at exit 19 (Renkum/Wageningen/Oosterbeek). Turn left at traffic lights and follow signs for Renkum/ Wageningen (N225). Continue straight ahead, following signs for Wageningen. This road turns into Ritzema Bosweg. In Wageningen, take the second exit at the roundabout (straight ahead) and continue along Ritzema Bosweg. Turn right at the first set of traffic lights onto Diedenweg (N781), following signs for Utrecht/Ede. The student associations work closely together with the AID to organize an amazing introduction week. The AID offers you the possibility to discover whether you want to join an association and which one.

To be able to take your digital exam and to use the software required for a course, your laptop must meet minimum requirements. Because you will need a lot of ‘Windows’ software, a Windows laptop is adviced. A Chromebook cannot be used and if you choose to use a MacBook, be aware you need to run Windows on your Mac.

Every year, WUR facilitates an attractive laptop offer in de LaptopShop. The models from the LaptopShop meet the minimum requirements and offer extensive service, regardless of your choose within WUR’s flexible education model.

The software you need for your courses can be installed from the WUR Appstore. Take enough time to prepare your laptop for using the WUR Appstore before the first classes. Instructions can be found on studentsupport.wur.nl. If you need personal help, you can go to ServicePoint IT in Forum.

More information can be found on wur.eu/laptop.

Yes, of course! The AID is not only about the city Wageningen. It is also about getting started with your student life and meeting fellow students. During the AID you will also be introduced to various associations like sports, study or student related associations. It is also the perfect time to make friends and already know some people before your study even starts!

Summer AID 16th-21th of August

If you don't have a room in Wageningen yet, you can probably stay with someone else in your AID-group. This can be arranged by your mentor. Another option might be sleeping at a association house, you can find information on the websites of SSR-WKSV FranciscusUnitas, Nji-Sri, Argo and Ceres. On the Facebook page 'Wageningen Student Plaza' many sleeping places for the AID are offered. If this is not possible, you can check the housingdesk website or Kamernet for a sleeping place or room to rent. Housing organisation Idealis takes care of a major part of student housing in Wageningen, you can subscribe for a room on their website but you will not be the only one subscribing. Take into account that subscription does not result immediately in a room.

An overview of websites where you can find a room can be found here.

Don’t have a place to stay during the AID and you also cannot stay with any of your group members? Come stay at the AID campsite! You can sleep here in your own tent (max size is a 6-person tent) during the entire AID. The cost for your whole AID (six days) are €55. The camping is equipped with everything you need: showers, toilets, breakfasts and lots of fun. So if you don’t want to miss a moment of the AID, fix your spot at the campsite via myAID! The camping is situated behind Axis Z.

Yes this is necessary. All the activities that are planned are either on campus or in Wageningen city centre. It is super valuable to get to know your new city, the university and her campus and other students! Therefore, it is still necessary to be in Wageningen and you should arrange a bike and a place to sleep (for example our AID Camping!).

Yes, it is possible to arrive later than your first day.  However, you will not get any discount and will still need to pay for the full six days. Therefore we hope to see you on all six days! The AID will be really spectacular this year, so it is definitely worth your time.

This year we offer MSc students a "MSc light" package. This includes the campusday, studyday and study BBQ and will take place on August 21st and 22nd. Futhermore, you are free to join the Open air movie, Infomarket and you can buy a seperate ticket for the Festival. The cost of the "MSc light" package are €15,- and includes lunch and dinner on the Studyday.

Are you not 18 years yet when you come to Wageningen? No problem! You can just join all the activities of the AID and will be placed into a group with some other under 18 participants. In the Netherlands, you are not allowed to drink alcohol or smoke under the age of 18. Therefore, you will get a special 18 minus wristband during the AID.

It is very handy if you take the following items with you:

- A mobile phone, to look on the online schedule on myAID
- The e-mail with your registration code (either printed or on your phone)
- ID
- A bicycle with good lighting (to cycle between the locations)
- Sportswear and in- and outdoor gym shoes (for the Friesland Campina Sportsday)
- Water bottle or reusable cup (we don't provide single use cups for lunch)
- Sunscreen or a rain coat and umbrella, depending on the weather
- Most associations only accept a debit card as payment, some also accept cash. A credit card is not widely accepted, so it is not recommended to bring along to the associations. At all the AID activities on campus you can pay with credit card (Visa, Mastercard or Diners Club) or debit. You can pay with cash, but we don't provide change, so please pay the exact amount.

If you stay at someone else or on the camping it is also nice to have:

  • Toilet articles
  • Enough dry and clean clothes (keep in mind that it can be cold and rainy too)
  • Towel
  • If necessary: medicines
  • If necessary: (air) mattress and sleeping bag

The registration fee for AID 2023 is €75 and includes all lunches and dinners, and participation in all activities.

If you are a MSc student from outside EU/EFTA, your registration fee is already included in your tuition fee. This does not apply for exchange students.

If you are not accepted for your studies, you can cancel your registration for the AID without costs before July 29th. After that, we will charge all the costs and you will not receive any refund.

This year the AID offers different options for participating in the Annual Introduction Days: the Regular AID program and the Campus Program. The Regular AID takes place from August 18 until August 23 and includes meeting a lot of other students, getting to know all (student) organisations in Wageningen en getting to know your way around the city. If you choose the regular program, the campus program is included.

The Campus Program is a reduced program on August 21 and August 22. If you join this program you tag along for just 2 of the 6 AID days. These 2 days takes place on campus. If you choose this program, you will get to meet less new people, and not get to know the city.

NB if you are from a non EFTA country, your AID participation fee is covered by your tuition fee, regardless which program you choose.

In your AID group, you will have some other people from your study, which you will get to know during the whole week. You will also be given the opportunity to meet fellow students during the study day, where only people from your study will be present.

For exchange students, this is a bit different. As you do not follow courses of one degree, we will try to place you with another exchange student. During the study day, the focus will be on understanding the Dutch systems.

For students of Aeres Hogeschool, you will be placed together with other students of Aeres Hogeschool. During the study day, you will be visiting Aeres Hogeschool and learn more about studying in general.
